Kampung Gurney

Completed 2024

Kampung Gurney

Unreliable sources of water, coupled with heavily polluted groundwater in the region, has resulted in rampant shortage of potable water in Kampung Gurney.

Kampung Gurney is home to the Temuan indigenous people, one of the largest and most widespread Orang Asli ethnic groups in Malaysia.

In fulfilment of our objective to assist underprivileged and rural communities with beneficial engineering-based projects, we reached out to Kampung Gurney through our partner in EWB Malaysia, Sanjiv.

After discussion with Sanjiv, EWB (SG) came onboard to support by conducting a recce in December 2023 to identify areas for improvement of existing rainwater harvesting systems.

Following up from the insights learnt during the recce, the team built and installed a rainwater harvesting system for an elderly woman's house which was cut off from the national water grid. This feat was achieved under 72 hours.

It was a challenging but fruitful experience for the Singapore team and the team is grateful to have made a small but significant impact to the community.

We hope to continue this collaboration with EWB (Malaysia). Stay tuned for project updates and opportunities!
