Nepal School Maintenance Works

In alignment with our mission to serve underserved communities through sustainable, engineering-based solutions, Engineers Without Borders (Singapore) continued our partnership with Peace Child Ministry (PCM) in Bungamati, Nepal.

Bungamati is a region that hosts numerous seasonal brick kiln workers and their families, many of whom face persistent challenges in accessing quality education, clean water, and basic infrastructure. The children in this community often lack safe, conducive spaces for learning and play, with living conditions made worse during the heavy monsoon season due to flooding and water borne hazards.

Following our initial engagements in 2022 and 2023 - which focused on water filtration, sanitation, and community needs assessment - our latest project in April 2025 directly addressed the growing threat of seasonal flash floods.

Working closely with PCM and local partners, our volunteer team designed and constructed a Flood Wall in the orphanage and learning facilities.

This structure now functions as a critical protective barrier, redirecting runoff away from classrooms, dormitories, and latrines, thereby improving both safety and hygiene for the children and staff.

This intervention is part of EWB (SG)’s longer-term commitment to holistic infrastructure support.

Beyond flood protection, the team also explored future improvements in insulation, irrigation reuse, and internet access - all guided by direct community engagement and sustainability principles.

By mitigating climate-induced risks and strengthening basic infrastructure, this project reinforces our belief that access to dignified living and learning environments is foundational to long-term community empowerment.
